Client relationships in the age of AI

We are living in the midst of one of the most transformative technology revolutions unfolded in the last 100 years - machine generated intelligence, more commonly referred to as AI. This has significant implications for how consultants see their role and engage with their clients. With democratization of knowledge through AI, clients do not expect consultants to provide just ‘intelligence’. This is now being relegated to - at best - a secondary role. Some of the more pressing concerns are - 1. How can AI help in delivering business outcomes? 2. How should work be divided between people and machines? 3. What are the risks to the business due to AI and how it can be mitigated? 4. What are the costs, benefits and environmental impacts of using AI for a use case? .. there are many more. Client considerations have shifted dramatically. Between euphoria and gloom - everyone agrees that there is a space that every organization must define where the business value generated by AI squares with other important criteria like costs, impact to society, future of humankind, sustainability etc. This ‘space’ will be unique to every business/firm. Consultants can play a critical role in guiding clients through this transformation. It calls for deep subject matter knowledge and emotional intelligence to guide the leadership and workforce to deliver win-win outcomes for all stakeholders. What do you think? I would love to have your views.
